In an attempt to provide savings in regards to power and cooling ASHRAE in considering widening the acceptable range of humidity and temperature settings in the data center.

We mentioned in a previous blog that some data centers have experimented with turning off their humidity controls in an attempt to provide power savings.

IBM introduces certification program for energy efficient data centers

The power of "Green" will undoubtedly continue in 2008.

IBM has just completed a certification program that allows data centers to earn money by improving energy efficiency in their data center.

Green 500 list

Two professors at the Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University developed the Green 500 list which is will be released on November 14th at Super Computing in Reno, NV. 

This release will be the first official release in which the Green500 list is hoping to rank the energy efficiency of all machines that encompass the Top500 list of the world's fastest supercomputers.

Green Data Centers keep coming

Recently Web Host Industry Review had a great article (page 16) on a data center that Citi is building in Frankfurt.

The article addresses the financial implications of companies that fail in their efforts to "go green".  Financial implications that include go well beyond affecting a companies bottom line profits and include government penalties such as a possible tax on carbon.
