Determining Factors for Going Green

A new article from TheDataCenterJournal.com gives some interesting prospective regarding the incentives for IT to make green decisions.

Claiming that budget constraints for power fall outside of IT.  Thus, support for purchasing such equipment requires obtaining support based on a larger company initiative.

The article also provides Six frequently cited recommendations for improving efficiency in the data center. 

The "Uptime Institute looks at data center energy efficiency by measuring the total energy load delivered to the data center versus what is actually consumed by critical IT loads".  This requires some sort of tracking and management of energy consumption.

DataCenterDynamics Conference and Expo

The DataCenterDynamics Conference and Expo will be taking place in at the Renaissance Dallas Richardson Hotel (900 E. Lookout Drive, Richardson, Texas 75082).

The show is considered the "World's largest gathering of professionals involved in the design, build and operational management of 24/7 mission critical IT facilities from the datacenter to the LAN closet."

Data Center Spending will Reportedly hold steady

In a recent report covered in the Data Center Journal users noted that despite current economic hardships 75% of interviewees expect changes within their data center facilities.

Many noted that the increased importance of such facilities for daily operations and overall company functions require upgrading and changing current facilities. This proved particularly important for larger corporations that depend upon computer automation processes for daily operations.

Of those surveryed, many of the upcoming projects and planning related to power useage.
