Uptime Institute Article regarding Measuring Power in the Data Center

The one consensus regarding power management in the data center is that you must measure the current consumption in order to gauge how effective improvements are.

PUE has been discussed a great deal in terms of power efficiency calculations. 
An additional calculation for efficiency is CADE (Corporate Average Data center Efficiency).

CADE calculation is determined as follows: CADE = (Facility Efficiency) x (IT Asset Efficiency)

• Facility Efficiency = Energy delivered to IT / energy drawn from utilities
• IT Asset Efficiency = Average CPU utilization across all servers, often a small percentage such as 5%, until efficiency efforts such as virtualization are undertaken.

The paper also discusses the 5 locations for measuring power.
